Special Dorchester-Mattapan on Question 1 Referrendum
Meting Friday Sepember 5, 2008 at 9:00 AM
Organizing Against the Question 1 Referendum
Dorchester community and civic organizations and social service agency and religious leaders are invited to a special meeting on organizing against the Question 1 Referendum on the fall ballot. The meeting will take place on Friday September 5 at 9:00 AM at the Codman Square Health Center, 637 Washington Street.
Please invite other organizations that should be there for this.
We will have some house signs for distribution and make plans for lit drops, phone banks, poll coverage, banners, ads and more.
Question 1, if passed, would eliminate the state income tax which means a 40% or $12 billion cut in the state budget. This would mean huge cuts in public safety, health care, education, housing, etc. programs funded by the state and city budgets.
We are all busy with our regular organizational agenda work, but I would plead with you to make a plan on how you can educate and involve your constituency on this campaign--otherwise we lose much of what we've worked for during past decades.
For more information, please contact Lew Finfer of Massachusetts Communities Action Network at (617) 822-1499 or Bill Walczak at the Codman Square Health Center at (617) 822-8184.
