Honoring the work of:
Iris Gomez
Born in Cartagena, Colombia, Iris Gomez immigrated to the United States as a child. She obtained her law degree from Boston University School of Law, where she now teaches Immigration Law part-time. Mrs. Gomez has worked at the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute (MLRI) for 15 years advocating for the rights of asylees, detainees and immigrant families, and providing leadership at critical moments at the state and federal level.
Hans F. Loeser
Hans F. Loeser came to the United States in early 1940 as a German refugee. After serving four years in the United States Army, Mr. Loeser graduated from Harvard Law School and has been with the Boston law firm Foley Hoag LLP since 1950. Throughout his professional and personal life, Mr. Loeser has been actively engaged in numerous social justice issues ranging from environmental protection to civil rights and racial justice.
Dear Friends,
The individuals we have chosen to honor this year are strong, determined leaders who value their newest neighbors. Drawing on American values of hard work, education and family, these leaders make Massachusetts a better place for immigrants and refugees, and make Massachusetts a better place for us all.
Your donation supports the critical work of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition which, since 1987, has worked to protect and promote the rights and opportunities of immigrants and refugees. This year part of the proceeds will also support the New American Democracy Fellowship. Launched in 2006, this program trains immigrant students across the Commonwealth as the civic leaders of tomorrow.
We hope you can join us for Give Liberty A Hand 2007 as we honor our leaders and celebrate 20 years of our work together!
Sincerely,
Westy Egmont, Event Co-Chair
